My Regularly Followed Sports: A Passion for Variety and Risk

As a coach for volleyball and soccer, I keep abreast of the latest tactics and rankings in both women’s college volleyball and professional men’s and women’s soccer. This includes following the Florida Gators college football, NFL football, and some college basketball games.

While these sports are a dominant part of my following, I also have a variety of other interests. For instance, I am a keen follower of cricket. Beyond the physical and mental benefits, cricket offers great opportunities for social and networking skills. One can learn to work as a team, communicate effectively, and deal with both victories and defeats.

My interests extend beyond these team sports to include motorsports. Specifically, I follow MotoGP and World Superbike events, with a side interest in the Isle of Man TT. Despite these sports not being as widely followed as stick-and-ball activities, I have a deep appreciation for the edge these sports bring.

Why MotoGP and World Superbike?

The reason behind my fascination with MotoGP and World Superbike lies in the term 'edge' sports. These activities often involve participants with almost supernatural skills and put them at genuine risk with every ride. Additionally, the motorcycles used can be driven on the road, not just on tracks. For example, the Ducati Desmosedici, its road version of the MotoGP race bike, is an extension of the competitive edge on the track to everyday driving.

Isle of Man TT: The Ultimate Test of Skill and Endurance

Amongst my interests lies a fervent admiration for the Isle of Man TT, a series of motorcycle races that have seen over 300 riders lose their lives since their inception in 1907. Participants ride at velocities approaching 200 mph on public roads, with lap speeds exceeding 130 mph on a 37-mile course filled with walls, buildings, and power poles. The risks are palpable, but so are the skills honed and the camaraderie shared.

Respecting the Spirit of Competition and Honoring the Fallen

I hold a deep respect for the skill and enthusiasm shown in these motor sports, but I cannot overlook the tragedies that accompany them. The Isle of Man TT is a testament to the physical and technical challenges that push human limits to the brink. My passion for these sports is grounded in understanding and honoring the sacrifices made in pursuit of pushing boundaries.
